All About Ecology

Our Navigators learned all about Ecology at our last meeting.
We learned how all life on earth is connected by doing a great game.
Each Navigator was assigned an animal, plant or insect.  We tossed a ball of yarn around to animals, plants and insects that were dependent on each other.  We created a web lof life and could see how all life could be affected by one tiny change by tugging on a string.

Then we played a fun game to learn about how animals adapt and the effect their habitats have on their survival.
We divided into teams and were given different tools to use to forage for food in different environments. Then had a relay race to see how the different environments and adaptions affected the success of each group.

We finished out the meeting with a super fun game of parent/child sharks and minnows.
Another fun meeting for Idaho Navigators!

Idaho Navigators Summer Camp Out 2014

This weekend was our first ever Family Camp Out.  It was an amazing experience.  We had so much fun and learned so many things.

After setting up camp, we opened with the Moral Compass.

Then, we headed off for a group hike to the hot springs; including learning how to safely wade through the river where it over took the trail just around the corner of the rock below.

The hot springs were beautiful.  We had a great time relaxing in the warm water and swimming in the river.

After drying off, the Navigators collected and sorted firewood.
We learned how to properly  and safely start a fire.

We took a short hike down to the river...

We learned how to bait and cast a fishing pole.

While we were teaching fishing, a small snake swam up, and we we got to take a closer look.

We finished off the night with S'mores around the fire.

In the morning, some of our Senior Navigators went on a more challenging hike at Dead Wood Ridge trail.

We had an amazing time and we are already looking forward to next year!
